Exceptional Education
Formerly the Student Support Department, the Exceptional Education Department at ESHS provides personalized support and guidance, ensuring that every student experiences a fulfilling and successful learning journey. The Virgin Islands' education system is committed to inclusive practices, rooted in the belief that students with special educational needs should be empowered to achieve their full potential. This support helps students transition smoothly into adulthood, enter the workforce, and pursue higher education or training.
In our department, we believe that every child can learn when placed in a positive, nurturing environment. We design Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Intervention Plans to foster each student's success, both academically and behaviorally.
Our Aim:
-
To effectively deliver programs and services for students with special education needs.
-
To monitor progress and collect data to support decision-making and ensure students meet specific goals.
-
To promote a consistent approach to meeting the needs of children with exceptionalities.
-
To identify and provide appropriate services in the least restrictive and most inclusive environment.
-
To ensure equity and access to suitable educational placements through early identification and intervention.
Science Department
The Science Department is made up of a dynamic group of 19 teachers who aim to bring excitement to the sciences. In our department we have expert teachers in Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Integrated Science, Human and Social Biology and Physics. We teach students how to prepare for not only CSEC Exams, but also entry level college science courses by developing necessary skills and enhancing critical thinking. Our department teaches the entire school, a testament to how important science knowledge is in developing analytical skills that transcend the subject. Many of our teachers have over 10 years teaching experience and continue to inspire the future leaders of this Territory.
Math Department
We live in a scientifically and technologically advancing world, thus making it very important for students to be well rounded in mathematical processes. Being mathematically literate would give students the edge in acquiring one of the many careers or pursuing another discipline of which mathematics is a foundation or pre-requisite.
